I’ve worked, shadowed, and volunteered in a spectrum of clinics. THRIVE is hands-down the most organized, clean, quiet, fresh-smelling (yes you read that correctly), and fun practice I’ve stepped foot in. How lucky am I to work here?! My externship with THRIVE planted the seed that the hospitals and the people were different and something I needed to be a part of.

Now that I am practicing full-time with THRIVE, consider it confirmed that being a veterinarian is the best career in the world. Be sure to select a practice to work in that respects and values your time, prioritizes culture and well-being, treats every member of its staff well, and has a structure that allows you to provide the best care for every pet that walks in. Visit THRIVE’s website to learn more about how our pet care model allows us to provide a unique culture and veterinary medicine at an unprecedented value.

Stressful days do happen; numerous complicated medical cases in a row, a sick veterinary technician, clients running late for appointments. For this reason, it is imperative to have breaks built in to the day (1 full hour for lunch) and a manageable schedule (35 hours a week). Finding a true work-life balance can be an essential component to avoiding compassion fatigue and feeling confident in your new career.

A good work-life balance can often become the difference of whether an employee chooses to stay with a practice. Knowing that I don’t have to stay late to do notes, because we have an awesome cloud-based artificial intelligence practice management software, and that I get 3.5 personal days each week is invaluable.

I have picked up hobbies such as cooking, reading, long walks, and restoring furniture. I have been able to maintain activities that bring me joy: traveling, regularly spending time with family and friends, and exercising daily. Most importantly, I don’t feel like I have to choose between work versus living my best life. I can live my best life BECAUSE of my work.

I am grateful every day for THRIVE Affordable Vet Care allowing me to focus on my dream: caring for God’s creatures to the best of my ability.
