The 4th of July is usually a day filled with excitement, celebration, and fun. But for many pets, it can be a terrifying, upsetting day filled with anxiety and confusion. We at THRIVE know this is a huge problem for our pets, and we want to help all our pet owners take the proper precautions to ensure your pet doesn’t go missing this 4th of July!
The tips below help create a more calming experience for your pet during celebrations with loud noises:
Tip #1 – Keep Pets Indoors
We know several pets are already typically indoors, but for those pet who are indoor-outdoor pets, it’s important to make sure they stay indoors with you during celebrations.
Tip #2 – Provide A Familiar Hiding Space
Providing your pet a comfortable and familiar crate, or making sure a favorite hiding place is open and ready, your pet will appreciate having a space to seek comfort.
Tip #3 – Use Regular Voices With Your Pets
Speak in a familiar and confident voice. Our pets can read our feelings and sense fear, and as such, can mimic our anxiety. Be sure to keep a regular tone of your voice and show no fear from the loud noises that will happen during celebrations.
Tip #4 – Create Calm Environment
Try to use radio or television to drown out the noise of outside. If you are not going to be home, make sure there is soothing music to help calm your pet while you’re away.
Tip #5 – Check Microchip!
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. A microchip is the best way to get your pet found in the case of being lost! Making sure your pet’s microchip stays up-to-date with your information will ensure a better chance of you being reunited with your pet.
